With a diverse background in the fitness industry, Chas excels in both his own athletic pursuits and helping others achieve their fitness goals. Holding various fitness-related positions, including personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach, he designs tailored workout programs and motivates individuals to push their limits. Chas’s impressive athletic achievements in triathlons, road races, and endurance challenges demonstrate his commitment and skill. As a co-founder of Project Multisport Tucson, he aims to share his expertise and passion through group workouts, training sessions, and workshops, empowering individuals of all fitness levels to achieve their personal best. Kailey Sumner

Haley Mayhew
Head Swim Coach
Coach Haley’s journey in swimming has been a fusion of dedication, coaching excellence, and record-breaking achievements. With over five years of coaching experience in competitive club swimming, she has nurtured aspiring athletes to reach new heights. A graduate of Northern Arizona University (NAU) with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Haley holds NAU school records in the 200 Breaststroke and 200 IM.
Her coaching prowess emerged under the guidance of Justin Slade, propelling her to secure her first sectionals cut at just 14. As a collegiate swimmer, she shattered records, becoming an essential part of NAU’s conference championship wins. Haley’s coaching journey, characterized by a passion for teaching and an unwavering commitment to athlete development, continues to leave an indelible impact on the world of swimming.
Justin Slade
Swim Director/ aquabear founder
Justin’s coaching journey is a testament to his unwavering dedication and transformative impact on swim development. Emerging from South Africa’s swimming culture, his immersion in developmental and competitive swimming since childhood ignited a lifelong commitment. Learning from revered mentors, Justin mastered both the art and science of swimming, translating his experience into a coaching style rooted in excellence.
Transitioning to the United States, Justin’s collegiate swimming stints at California State University – Bakersfield and Arizona State University set the stage for his coaching legacy. With over two decades of coaching expertise, he elevated programs like Sun Devil Aquatics and La Camas Headhunters, mentoring swimmers to state, national, and Olympic Trial success. Justin’s crowning achievement was realizing his dream as Owner and Founder of Aquabear Swim Club in Tucson, where his coaching flourishes, shaping a community of dedicated swimmers and a legacy that continues to redefine aquatic possibilities.

Barrie Shepley is a highly regarded figure in the world of endurance sports, with a rich history of coaching and mentoring athletes. As the founder of Personal Best, a renowned endurance sports coaching company, Barrie has dedicated his career to helping athletes achieve their full potential.
With over 40 years of experience, Barrie’s impact on the multisport community is profound. His coaching expertise spans triathlon, duathlon, running, and cycling, guiding athletes at all levels, from beginners to Olympic champions. Barrie’s coaching philosophy emphasizes the integration of physical, mental, and technical aspects, ensuring athletes develop the skills and mindset needed to excel in their chosen disciplines.
